I love a French Press! Its how my Mum always drinks coffee and usually how I brew when I go to visit her (Yes, Mum will make me brew the coffee!)

The French Press or Cafetiere is an immersion brew method similar to an Aeropress, which means we don’t need to to a pre-wet or bloom like a pour over. We can just fill it up and leave it to do its thing.

Due to the mesh filter being quite coarse, you will get undissolved particles of coffee coming through into your mug which can be a little un-pleasant. So to avoid this I recommend doing as little as possible to agitate the brew!

Pour all your water in, in one go, and put the plunger in with filter just below the surface so all the ground coffee is fully submerged.

After 4 mins, give the plunger a little jiggle so the floating coffee at the top is disturbed and starts drifting to the bottom of the brewer.

Then finally at around 8mins most of the undissolved coffee will be settled at the bottom, so you can gently pour the coffee into the mug. If you press the plunger down you have a chance of disturbing the ground coffee at the bottom which can come in to the mug.
